Registration now is open for the second annual Topeka Community
Conversation on Poverty, to be held at Washburn University on June 16.
Organized by the AmeriCorps VISTA office at the Washburn’s Center for
Community and Civic Engagement and by a group of committed Topeka
residents, the event will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the VISTA

From June 3 through 15, 2015, the Mulvane Art Museum will host
artist-in-residence Isaiah Zagar, ceramic mosaic muralist from
Philadelphia, PA. An exhibition of Zagar’s work will be on view at the
museum from May 15 through August 8. Mr. Zagar is an internationally
recognized artist. Over a period of forty years he has created

This year’s annual Washburn University President’s Concert features an
extra twist – the premier of a new piece commissioned in honor of the
150th anniversary of the university.
“This is always a special concert for us,” said Chris Kelts, director of

In conjunction with the current exhibition Chicanitas: Small
Paintings from the Cheech Marin Collection, the Mulvane Art Museum
is hosting “A Conversation with Cheech Marin.” The conversation will
take place on Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Washburn Room,

The Mulvane Art Museum was recently contacted by the Art in Embassies
program of the U.S. State Department to lend several large paintings to
the American Embassy in Moscow. The current ambassador to Russia, John
F. Tefft, is originally from Wisconsin, and he requested landscape
paintings that depicted the Midwest and the West. Tefft selected the
following works from the Mulvane’s collection:
