         TOPEKA, Kan. - Washburn University will host a Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, April 30th at the Kuehne Bell Tower at 7 p.m., to honor Ichabod football player Dwane Simmons.          Washburn University issued the following statement this morning to the university community:To the campus community:We come to you this morning with sad and difficult news.  Early this morning two of our students were the victims of an off-campus shooting.  Dwane Simmons, a junior and a member of the football team, was killed in the incident.  In addition, Corey Ballentine, a senior, was injured.  Ballentine is expected to make a full recovery.Any timemore...

    Topeka celebrates Law Day with a public program.
         Washburn University School of Law, Topeka Bar Association and the judges of the Kansas Third Judicial District are sponsoring Law Day 2019 at Washburn Law on May 1.  The day will include a Continuing Legal Education Course (CLE) in the Robinson Courtroom from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and a free public program from 6 to 8 p.m.     The theme for Law Day 2019 is “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society,” with a focus on these cornerstones of representative governmentmore...
