Washburn presents its annual “Bow Tie Fair”

The spring BOWTIE Fair is Feb. 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Washburn Room of the Union. This program gives students a chance to learn about campus activities, join a student organization (or two or three...), learn more about majors and check out study abroad opportunities. Many different majors and organizations will be exhibiting at the fair.

How Community Writing Empowers – a Gender Brown Bag

An exchange of body shaming stories among friends on social media turned into a piece of community writing; English Professor Louise Krug will explain how this process happened and connect her experience to work by social worker and researcher Brenè Brown. Krug will discuss the idea that writing about a traumatic experience empowers you to own the story. She will discuss strategies for letting writing empower us all and why that is important and lead a group writing exercise at the end of her presentation.

Resume Roadshow & Career Fair

Washburn is hosting its annual spring Resume Roadshow and Career Fair in February. Bring your resume to the Resume Roadshow for employers and Career Services to provide brief reviews. No appointment necessary, resumes of Washburn students are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Resume Roadshow is Monday, Feb. 11, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. outside the Corner Store in the Union.

The Career Fair is Wednesday, Feb. 13, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Lee Arena; attendees will have the opportunity to network with more than 90 employers offering part-time, internship, and full-time opportunities. This is a great event to explore career paths as well. Bring copies of your resume, professional dress is expected.

Professor Andrea J. Boyack, from Washburn's School of Law, will present "The Interpretation & Enforcement of Non-disclosure Agreements" as part of Themester and Mondays at Mabee. Boyack's presentation is Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m. in Mabee Library.

Women and Leadership - a Gender Brown Bag

Juli Mazachek, vice president of academic affairs, will present about a WTE project she advised last spring on women in leadership. The project included a review of key research regarding the role of gender in leadership, the impact of gender on the leader, their direct reports and supervisors, and the implicit bias that continues to exist and potential ways to address this bias in the future. This session will close with a more general discussion of Washburn, including its strengths and areas for future growth.
