Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University’s mass media department is celebrating their 25th anniversary with a banquet and keynote speaker. The banquet begins 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11 in Washburn A/B in Memorial Union on Washburn’s campus. Tickets are free for students and $20 for mass media alumni and friends. More than 120 tickets have been sold; this is the first year that tickets have been free for students.
Michel’ Cole, Washburn alumna and energy company executive, is the keynote speaker for the evening. Cole will speak about her experiences as a longtime communications professional in the community and will offer words of wisdom for current students as they embark on their careers. Along with Cole’s keynote, there will be a student achievement awards presentation, dinner and alumni after hours networking party. Five outstanding students and mass media scholarship recipients will be announced during the student achievement awards presentation.
“This is an awesome networking opportunity for mass media students. We are so thankful for all of the support and hope to see many students, alumni and friends of the mass media department in attendance,” said Bayley Baker, current Washburn mass media student. The Mass Media Banquet is planned and executed by Washburn students in the Public Relations II class every year, taught by Dr. Kristen Grimmer. Bayley Baker is a student in this class and has had a key role in the execution of the 2019 banquet.
