Bret Sidesinger of Topeka, will compete in the WorldSkills Cabinetmaking Qualifying Trial July 24-27 in Las Vegas, Nev. Sidesinger, a 2013 graduate of Washburn Tech’s cabinet and millwork program, qualified after earning a top score at SkillsUSA national championships in June. He and his fellow competitors also met the competition’s age requirement. Competitors will work in a fully-functioning 1,600 square foot cabinet shop for 27 hours and build an advanced cabinet that includes a door, drawer box, handcut dovetail joinery, veneer, edgebanding, built-in drawer slides and hardware installation. The project plans were developed by a team of industry professionals and educators. The winner in Las Vegas will go to WorldSkills 2015 in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
