Washburn Tech is holding its own Letter of Intent Signing Day from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on February 20, 2014. New students for the 2014-2015 school year will take part in a signing ceremony, similar to an athletic signing, in Washburn Tech’s Conference Center at 5724 S.W. Huntoon. Students also will be able to initiate their enrollment for next semester.
Washburn Tech’s event mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.
“By signing our incoming students to Letters of Intent, we’re telling them that we’ve reserved a place for them and we want them. Technical education will prepare them for a strong career,” said Clark Coco, dean, Washburn Tech. “Industry leaders also are excited about this opportunity because it validates the student and provides an opportunity for industry leaders to meet these future workers.”
Area business and community leaders along with several of Washburn Tech’s corporate partners will be in attendance to show support. The day’s agenda also includes an industry open house and round table at the Midwest Training Center, Washburn Tech’s climate and energy control technologies lab. With leadership from Trane, they will design an upcoming Building Automation Controls training seminar for today’s mechanical systems technicians.
