    Assist area children and their families in need during the holidays by donating to the 10th Annual Giving Tree Project from Friday, Nov. 7 through noon Friday, Dec. 5 at locations on or near the Washburn University campus. Participants visit one of the trees, select a tag and purchase the gift request.     Washburn University students faculty and staff collected 14,000 cans for three local hunger-relief efforts in the annual Can Emporia food drive competition. Results of the competition were announced Saturday during halftime of the Washburn vs. Emporia State University football game at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl.     Ten Washburn University students have been selected as candidates for 2014 Homecoming king and queen. The Homecoming king and queen will be crowned on Saturday, Oct. 18 at halftime of the football game vs. Missouri Western State University, Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl.
