    Annual student exhibition opens Friday, reception for "Hallowed Absurdities"

    Art lovers of all ages are invited, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday to the Mulvane Art Museum for a Frist Friday Opening Reception.Opening Friday will be the Washburn University Art Department Student Exhibition.          Made of road kill, animal skulls, jawbones, pelts and skins, as well as body bags, bullets, tools and actual guns, the art works in Hallowed Absurdities: Work by Theodore Waddell raise the issue of the use of guns in our society.     Washburn University's Mulvane Art Museum welcomes a new exhibit this week of writings by Thomas Fox Averill and drawings by artist Clinton Ricketts.  The exhibit -- Garden Plots -- opens Friday, December 4 and remains at the museum through January 23, 2016.Garden Plots is a collection of short stories and poems inspired by Averill's visits to 21 gardens in 31 days during a trip to England and France.  An avid gardener, he became determined to find an idea for a short story with everymore...
