    Up to seven $1,500 prizes offered for winners

         Washburn University is issuing a call for entries for its 21st annual outdoor sculpture competition.  The prize for those sculptures selected for display is $1,500.     A professional selection committee will choose up to seven sculptures to be displayed on the campus of Washburn University in a year-long exhibition.  Previous winners have come from throughout the Midwest, around the country and from a variety of other countries.  more...

         Washburn University’s Mulvane Art Museum is hosting a poetry reading by internationally acclaimed Irish poet Desmond Egan. The reading entitled “Poetry and Life” – is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22 from 6-7 pm and is free and open to the public.   After the reading, Egan will take questions from the audience. public.     Egan, who is the author of twenty-three books of poetry, has been part of the poetry scene in Topeka since the 1980s.more...

         Prairie Memories: The Art of Glenda Taylor honors the life and art of Washburn University ceramics professor Glenda Taylor, who was killed in a biking accident last June. In her work Glenda, a lifelong Kansan, often expressed her love of the Plains, its animals, winds, tornadoes, prairies, creek beds and even the fossils of its watery geological past.
