Topeka Metro and Washburn University Collaborate to Create a Washburn University Themed Transit Bus

12/09/14 07:12 am CST
"Washburn’s decision to cover the cost of its student’s transit really demonstrates how forward-thinking and student-focused the university is."

A newly wrapped Topeka Metro transit bus featuring a Washburn University theme will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in front of the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center, Washburn campus, 17th Street and Jewell Avenue. The bus is a celebration of the collaboration between the Topeka Metro and Washburn which allows Washburn students, faculty and employees to ride free. Each month, Topeka Metro provides more than 5,500 rides to Washburn students, faculty and employees.

“College students are the fastest growing user population for public transit,” said Susan Duffy, general manager for Topeka Metro. “Washburn’s decision to cover the cost of its student’s transit really demonstrates how forward-thinking and student-focused the university is.”

The wrapped bus will be used in regular rotation on all of Topeka Metro’s fixed routes. The design will remain on for two years.
