Media Advisory: Voices of Freedom Music Festival in Downtown Topeka Saturday, May 20

"Voices of Freedom: Now is the Time"

WHAT: “Voices of Freedom: Now is the Time” is a music festival celebrating the anniversary of the Brown vs Board of Education decision. Kelley Hunt, a native of Kansas City and an acclaimed singer/songwriter/musician, will be the headliner with additional performances by Maria the Mexican, Isaac Cates & Ordained and Injunuity.

WHEN:  2:00- Mayor’s opening message

           2:15- Injunuity

           3:15- recorded “voices” about Brown v. Board of Education

           3:30- Maria the Mexican

           4:30- recorded “voices” about Brown v. Board of Education

           4:45- Isaac Cates and Ordained

           5:45- Mini Poetry Slam

           6:00- Kelley Hunt

WHERE: Block between 7th and 8th Streets on Kansas Ave. in downtown Topeka

WHO: Kelley Hunt, Maria the Mexican, Isaac Cates and Ordained, Injunuity, Topeka community

VISUALS: Music performances, poetry readings, audience watching and listening

DETAILS: Kansas Avenue will be blocked off for the event and the stage will be set with the Capital Building as a backdrop.  Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs so they can relax and enjoy the music, which is expected to last until 7 p.m.  Alcohol will not be permitted within the festival area.
