Ichabods to Play at Arrowhead, Social Media Contest to Get Fans in the Game

As the Washburn Ichabods prepare to take the field at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time ever next month, a social media contest launching this week aims to give lucky Ichabod fans a lasting memory.

Contest winners will receive an all-inclusive experience at the first Fall Classic vs. Northwest Missouri State University on Nov. 15 at Arrowhead Stadium.

“I wish I’d had that opportunity to play at Arrowhead when I played in college,” said Joe Hastings, a former All-American at Washburn and a personnel assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles. “That is going to be an unbelievable experience for the guys on the team now.”

Beginning Monday and continuing through midnight on Nov. 3, the #BodsAtArrowhead Ichabod Blitz will challenge Washburn fans -- students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends -- to share their love for all things Ichabod on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds .

"We want to see Ichabod sprit in all forms: at work, at play with the Ichabods and whatever Ichabod spirit is to you," said Michaela Saunders, web editor in the Office of University Relations. "We want to see the excitement for #BodsAtArrowhead build over the next six weeks leading up to the game. This is a historic opportunity for the Washburn football program and we want our student athletes to know we support them."

The contest was developed and is being coordinated by social media managers from several university departments, including Saunders and Ernie Webb, of the Washburn Alumni Associati on. The goal is to build excitement toward the Nov. 15 Fall Classic football game at Arrowhead Stadium against Northwest Missouri State University. Northwest Missouri is officially the home team for this year's game.

There are four steps to the contest:

  1. Twitter: A photo representing your Washburn spirit. Tweet it using #BodsAtArrowhead.
  2. Facebook: A photo or video of you attending a Washburn athletic event, tagging the Washburn Ichabods Facebook page (http://www .facebook.com/wusports) and using #BodsAtArrowhead. (You will have to like the page in order to tag it in your photo.)
  3. Instagram: A photo or video of you involved in your academic or professional pursuits. Tell us what you do and post it to Instagram using #BodsAtArrowhead.
  4. When you’re finished, send a Facebook message to facebook.com/wusports with all three of your usernames. We'll reach out to you via social media if you are a winner.

Completion of all three challenges is required to be entered in the Grand Prize Drawing.

Those who complete all four steps of the contest will be entered into a random drawing for one of three prize packages valued at hundreds of dollars each, all including tickets, transportation, a gift card and more. The prizes have been made possible with support from Washburn Athletics, Ichabod Shop and the Washburn University Foundation. Read the official rules.

Grand Prize

  • You and one guest will receive an all-access media pass and escort. (tour the locker room before the game, meet with broadcast crew as it prepares for the game, walk the sidelines during pregame activities)
  • You and one guest motorcoach passes from Washburn University to Arrowhead
  • You and one guest admission to the Alumni Association tailgate, which includes a catered barbecue dinner and drinks
  • $50 giftcard from the Ichabod Shop
  • Autographed football from the Ichabods
  • Two #BodsAtArrowhead scarves

Second Prize

  • Tickets to the game for you and one guest.
  • You and one guest motorcoach passes from Washburn University to Arrowhead
  • You and one guest admission to the Alumni Association tailgate, which includes a catered barbecue dinner and drinks
  • Autographed football from the Ichabods
  • Two #BodsAtArrowhead scarves
  • $25 giftcard from the Ichabod Shop

Third Prize

  • Tickets to the game for you and one guest.
  • You and one guest motorcoach passes from Washburn University to Arrowhead
  • You and one guest admission to the Alumni Association tailgate, which includes a catered barbecue dinner and drinks
  • Two #BodsAtArrowhead scarves
  • $25 giftcard from the Ichabod Shop

The first 100 people who participate in any photo portion of the contest will receive a #BodsAtArrowhead scarf.

"We want to see those scarves this year, next year and beyond," Webb said. "And we want to see our Ichabod fans in the stands at Arrowhead Stadium on Nov. 15. Our contest winners will have the chance to be on the field and behind the scenes."
