Media Advisory: Nine Area High School Bands to Perform in Washburn University’s Annual Capital City Marching Band Festival Oct. 11

WHAT: Students from nine area high schools will participate in the Capital City Marching Band Festival Wednesday, Oct. 11. The Washburn University music department hosts this annual festival. The public is welcome and there is a fee to attend. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students (with school IDs); children 6 years old and younger are free.

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

WHERE: Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl on the Washburn campus

WHO: Area high school students, Washburn University music students and faculty, and the public

DETAILS:Topeka-area marching bands, color guards and drumlines will perform their best half-time performances for evaluation during the 2017 Capital City Marching Band Festival. Judges evaluate bands on musical performance, entertainment value, and marching and maneuvering. Bands can win in four categories – drum majors, color guard, percussion, and overall band.

Marching bands from Mission Valley, Highland Park, Shawnee Heights, Leavenworth, Turner, Washburn Rural, Topeka High, Seaman, and Topeka West will perform. The Topeka West Charger Band won first place in all four categories in 2016.
