Washburn University School of Law's Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing Program has been ranked 13th in the nation in the just released 2017 edition of the U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of the Best Law Schools.  Additionally, Washburn Law improved 16 spots in the U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of all accredited law schools compared to last year. This is the largest jump of any law school in Kansas and the region.

Legal writing is a crucial skill for successful lawyers, and Washburn Law has dedicated resources to create a strong Legal Writing Program. Unlike many other law schools, Washburn Law’s legal writing courses are taught by tenure-track professors who focus on preparing students for the actual practice of law. Our professors are dedicated to legal writing as a primary field; are active in scholarship; and provide service to the legal writing community through workshops, presentations, and leadership positions.

We are pleased that Washburn Law has received this recognition for our outstanding legal writing program, which prepares our graduates to succeed in today's legal environment,” said Washburn Law Dean Thomas J. Romig.  “This honor is a reflection of our dedicated faculty and the strength of our academic programs.”

In addition to the U.S. News & World Report ranking, Washburn Law has received a number of accolades this year. A few of these honors include:

  • Named #2 law school in the nation for its government law program by preLaw magazine in its Winter 2016 issue.
  • Named a "Best Value Law School" and "Best School for Small Law" (law firms of two to 100 attorneys) by The National Jurist magazine in its 2015 Back to School issue.
  • Named an "Outstanding Law School" by The Princeton Review in The Best Law Schools 2016 Edition.
