Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek will be Washburn University’s interim vice president of academic affairs. As such she will serve as the university’s chief academic officer and oversee all of the educational activities of the university. Mazachek is currently the president of the Washburn University Foundation. Mazachek will replace Dr. Randy Pembrook who recently accepted the job as chancellor at Southern Illinois University’s Edwardsville Campus.
“We are fortunate to have such a talented and experienced leader and educator willing to step into this key role in academic affairs,” said Dr. Jerry Farley, president of Washburn University. “JuliAnn will help us keep the university moving forward on a firm footing while we conduct a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis.”
Mazachek joined Washburn University in 1992 as an assistant professor of accounting after earning her doctorate from the University of Kansas. She rose through the Washburn School of Business and became the dean of the school of business in 1998.
In 2002, Mazachek was named president and CEO of the Washburn University Foundation and Alumni Association where she is responsible for leading the non-profit foundation charged with fundraising and alumni relations on behalf of the university. That foundation has won several national fundraising awards and has more than $185 million in assets. It annually provides more than $13 million in support of the university. She has also remained active in teaching as an adjunct instructor in accounting in the school of business.
During her tenure at Washburn, Mazachek has won numerous awards and has become a fixture in community affairs. She currently serves on the boards of Heritage National Bank, the St. Francis Health Center, the Kansas Hospital Association, The Boy Scouts of America and Kansas Junior Achievement.
While Mazachek is interim vice president of academic affairs at Washburn University, Marshall Meek, executive director of major and planned giving and Jim Stogsdill, senior director of finance will handle day-to-day operations at the Washburn University Foundation.
